Equipment

  • 1 Measuring Cup / Utensils
  • 1 Small Saucepan
  • 1 Strainer
  • 1 Grater
  • 1 Juicer for Lemon(s)
  • 1 Juice Pitcher or Glass Jar
  • 1 Reusable Tea steeper This item is optional and not required for the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 in Fresh Ginger
  • ¾ cup Lemons, about 1-2 lemons
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 4 cups Filtered Water

Instructions

  • Grate 3-4 inches of fresh ginger into a small bowl. If you really enjoy a ginger taste, then grate closer to 4 inches.
  • Place fresh grated ginger and 2 cups of filtered water into a small saucepan. Place heat on medium-high and bring water to a boil. Let boil for at least 15mins. If you prefer to place the ginger in a tea steeper instead of straight into the pan, that works as well. I noticed the ginger taste is strongest when I place the ginger pieces straight into the pan.
  • While ginger/water come to a boil, juice lemon(s) to create 3/4 cup of fresh lemon juice.
  • Strain lemon juice by pouring through a strainer and into your juice pitcher or glass jar. If a glass jar has a narrow mouth opening, pour strained juice into a measuring cup, then pour into glass jar.
  • Once you have let the ginger and water boil for at least 15mins, turn off heat and allow time for it to cool slightly.
  • Pour ginger and water from saucepan through a strainer into your juice pitcher or glass jar. If you are using glass, make sure it is compatible with heat before pouring in the hot liquid.
  • Add ¼ tsp salt, 2 tbsps of honey, and 2 cps of filtered water to the mixture. Stir in pitcher, or attach lid and shake in jar until completely dissolved.
  • Serve over ice and enjoy!

Notes

  • This recipe makes about 1 liter of juice.
  • Typically, 1 lemon is fine, but if your lemons are small than 2 will be better.
  • If I'm planning to drink this after hiking or running, I'll add an additional 1/4 tsp of salt to replenish my body after all the sweating.
  • If you enjoy a stronger ginger taste, boil the ginger in water for closer to 20mins.
